Elkhart/Goshen Metro No. 3 in National Corporate Facility Construction Rankings
The Elkhart/Goshen metro area placed No. 3 in Site Selection magazine’s annual national Governors Cup rankings. The recognition is for new and expanded corporate facilities in places with a population less than 200,000.
The competition, started in 1988, reports high-impact projects tracked by Conway Data Inc.’s New Plant Database. No other Indiana counties made the list.
“This is another huge win for Elkhart County and demonstrates that our development is still accelerating,” said Dorinda Heiden-Guss, president and CEO of the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County.
Site Selection counts corporate facilities, not including retail, government, school, or hospital projects, that involve at least a $1 million investment, create 20 new jobs, or add at least 20,000 square feet of space.
Elkhart County had 12 such facilities in 2014. Odessa, Tex., and Sioux City led the list. Battle Creek, Mich., tied for eighth place with eight projects.
“Rankings are not based on favoritism, but based on hard data projects, new plants and expansions in the past 12 months,” said Mike Glennon, Conway’s regional director. “This is a huge win for Elkhart County, as no other counties in Indiana qualified for these rankings.”
